Notts games 2008 with 'Singsoc' netball

A picture speaks a thousand words. This picture shows the Singsoc netball team at Nottingham Games 2008 with our foreign talent. Yay foreign talent!

Let me start from the start. Nottingham Games is an annual singsoc/msoc event at Uni of Nottingham where singsocs/msocs within out region all come together for the day to meet up with friends and compete in a variety of games and sports. Unfortunately, I did not get to go last year (last year being my freeest year) and was still too toot to organise anything. This year though, I was bent on going. However suay suay alot of hiccups. Burps actually. To the point where I was quite convinced that some higher being was showing signs to stop me from going. Perhaps coz there was going to be a train crash/ 1 of us was goign to get killed.. I did not know. Or maybe it was just character building.

Anyway, we stubbornly went ahead with it and there were no crashes, no accidents, just a small cut on 1 player. So. All's not well that ends well.

Initially it was just 7 of us exactly (Paula, XY, Xiaomeng, Keewei, Tamami, Cat and me) so there were no subs. On top of that we had never played together as a team before (and we all just got to know Cat the night before). We had 2 quite miserable trainings of which people were usually too busy to attend. And also I only organised them in the last 2 weeks. Hai. Just my luck that this is a busy year for most people. Still, I guess this is a blessing in disguise coz we got to meet more new people and make new friends! Alamak that sounds so.. Barney. The team played better than I expected and we all got along extremely easily, which was a huge huge relief coz I was a bit worried about awkwardness and all what with our international team. Hee I think Paula was a bit shocled when I blatantly said, ' I think the team is playing much Much better than I expected.' Heh. Talk about diplomacy.

We played like sai in the 1st game coz everybody was runnign around blindly and I tink most of us were not sure of the rules and it was also the 1st time playing for some. Basically it was just a very messy game and I was still experimenting with positions at that stage. Though our foreign talents arrived in time for the 2nd game onwards (whew) and we could start subbing people in and out it was still a messy game. Funnily enough, our individual players are actually really good but we just kept playing very messily. After Kim went through tactics and all we managed to win the other matches. Just shows. Not that we are lousy. We just need to lose 3 matches to warm up before we start playing really well.

Pretty heartwarming to see everyone's enthusiasm. Like I did not really expect anyone to care about tactics and positions and thought most (I know it is not everybody) people just went there for the experiene and to heck and get it done and over with. However.. there you are. Sports really does bring people together! Now I kinda wish we had an inter-group sports competition in med schoo den perhaps I will be closer to my group :D

Ok. I feel a sudden responsibility to blog. Being alone does actually make one more responsible. By one I mean including the great one. Ok really not funny. Anyway today I did alot of being-alone-so-no-choice-have-to-be-responsible things like taking the rubbish in and out.. calling britishgas.. testing out my internet phone coz my paypal finally got set up.. and all that. Well I haven't been blogging not because life here is sucky and boring. Quite the contrary. Many many things have been happening and there isn't much time to breathe. Got time to watch online shows tho.. Anyway, plus the workload of this sem, I had to downgrade blogging on my priority list (priority is a really hard word to type).

Welll shan't talk about workload. Mm. We had a Halloween dinner the other night. It was really fun! Not a big group but that made it easier for everyone to talk and be included.. It was quite an interesting day. In the morning we were all stocked up with leftover savoy cabbage, 1.5 packets of minced meat and... chicken stock cubes for the sumptuos meal that was planned for that night. Funny thing all of us went out that day and bought food we thought we would need and surprise surprise, we had too much food! Which, of course, is always a good thing. Just short of QY's 15 different types of marinated chicken. No matter. She compensated with B & J's (on offer £1.80!! XD) Phish Food.. plus my caramel chew chew which wasn't as popular. Anyway we carved a pumpkin (Jie Kou) who was a chinese pumpkin coz he had small eyes and lit a candle inside and had spooky jaffa cakes and a lava lamp and cool music.. Told ghost stories which I must admit (though it was my idea) was not the brightest suggestion coz poor Zihui still had to walk home..

The next next week was Medics Oriental Dinner, which I shall only blog positive things about since my year organised it. Quite happy that many people thought it was really good. Well the food REALLY was not bad! It was really easy-going and everyone mingled very well for some reason. Yay me XD

Dennn we had a group meal at Pizza Express. Not a very cheap place so I cleared every scrape if pizza I ordered (had to eat with FORK and KNIFE wth). Oh and dough balls. Which were really nice in the garlic butter though of course, it was like the £2 bowl of rice situation. Stupid conversion. It was quite a pleasant dinner.. Service was really good.. Din really wanna go at first coz I was lazy but yea turned out quite nice! Den Sania described this famous cafe that sold really nice cakes that sound like the cakes in the Shopaholic wedding book. I am determined to make my way to birmingham to try that cake. Oh and Tamami made nice soup! Which I had before the dinner. Haha

Which brings me to today. Just got out of a psych lecture, emailing Ling and Bon and am now feeling very drained. What lies ahead issss Notts Games this saturday.. Town on wed.. I need glittons so I can use my hands while still protecting them from the shit weather. By the way it HAS snowed. Once. But still.

Yup so basically I have been a busy person. I guess life is fun when it is happening. Keeps u slightly more awake too. Exercise is great too! Really full of adrenaline and u feel healthy for a few hours. Sadly my pride in having exercised always leads me to eat all my biscuits and chocolates and carbo in the thought that they will preferentially be stored as glycogen instead of fat after exercise. Unfortunately I love food and food likes me back. They find that I provide a comfortable and homely environment for them and tend to like to store up inside, even when I try to burn them away by increasing the metabolic activity of my tissues. See. What people learn in med school does not always apply to real life.
